What is Enzyme (MLN)?
Enzyme (MLN) is the native token of Enzyme Finance, a decentralised on-chain asset management protocol on Ethereum that has been operating since 2019. MLN is used to pay protocol fees and supports the long-term sustainability of the platform's smart contract infrastructure.
The History of Enzyme
Enzyme Finance was founded in 2016 as Melon by Mona El Isa and Reto Trinkler, and launched on Ethereum mainnet in 2019. It is one of the longest-running decentralised asset management protocols in DeFi. In 2021 the project rebranded from Melon to Enzyme to reflect its expanded scope, while MLN was retained as the protocol's native token.
The Use Case of Enzyme
The primary use case for MLN is to fund protocol development and pay specific on-chain asset management fees within the Enzyme ecosystem. The protocol allows users to set up on-chain investment vaults that accept deposits from other users, with strategies executed transparently through smart contracts.
MLN also gives holders a stake in the long-term direction of the Enzyme protocol. As tokenised asset management grows, the protocol provides infrastructure for fund managers, DAOs, and treasuries to run rules-based investment strategies fully on-chain, with MLN supporting the maintenance and growth of that infrastructure.
