What is Aster (ASTER)?

Aster (ASTER) is the native token of Aster DEX, a multi-chain decentralised exchange focused on perpetual futures and spot trading. ASTER is used for governance, fee discounts, staking rewards, and participation in trading incentive programmes across BNB Chain, Ethereum, Solana, and Arbitrum.

The History of Aster

Aster was formed from the merger of Astherus and APX Finance in late 2024, with the unified Aster platform launching around 31 March 2025. The platform is backed by YZi Labs, the family office of Binance founder Changpeng Zhao. The ASTER token generation event took place on 17 September 2025, and within months the platform became one of the top decentralised perpetual exchanges by trading volume and total value locked.

The Use Case of Aster

The main use case for ASTER is governance and utility within the Aster decentralised exchange. Holders can vote on listings, fee structures, and treasury allocations, and stake the token to earn rewards from platform activity. Active traders use ASTER for fee tier discounts and to participate in Trade and Earn programmes that distribute rewards based on trading volume.

The token is closely tied to Aster's broader product suite, which includes spot markets, perpetual contracts with leverage of up to 1001x in Simple Mode, hidden orders for large traders, and yield-bearing collateral assets such as asBNB and USDF. As the platform expands across more chains and product lines, ASTER is intended to capture value generated across the ecosystem.
