What is Morpho (MORPHO)?

Morpho (MORPHO) is the governance token of the Morpho Protocol, a decentralised lending infrastructure on Ethereum, Base, and other EVM-compatible networks. MORPHO is used to govern the protocol's parameters, including treasury management, token-contract ownership, fee switch settings, liquidation loan-to-value thresholds (LLTVs), and interest rate models (IRMs).

The History of Morpho

Morpho was founded in 2021 by Paul Frambot and Merlin Egalite with the goal of improving capital efficiency in DeFi lending. The project launched as a peer-to-peer optimisation layer on top of Aave and Compound before evolving into Morpho Blue, an open and immutable lending primitive. As of early 2026 Morpho is one of the largest decentralised lending protocols by total value locked, used by retail users, DAOs, and institutions.

The Use Case of Morpho

The primary use case for MORPHO is to govern the Morpho Protocol and its surrounding ecosystem of curated vaults and lending markets. Holders vote on the addition of new collateral, oracle providers, fee switches, and treasury allocations. MORPHO also plays a role in directing liquidity incentives across markets.

Morpho's permissionless lending architecture has been adopted by integrators including yield platforms, fintechs, and stablecoin issuers. As more applications build on Morpho Blue and use it as their underlying lending engine, MORPHO captures value as the central governance asset of the protocol.
