The History of Maple Finance

Maple Finance was launched in May 2021 by Sidney Powell and Joe Flanagan with the goal of bringing institutional credit markets on-chain. The protocol originally used the MPL token, which was replaced by SYRUP in 2024 through a token migration designed to align incentives and broaden community participation. As of early 2026, Maple is one of the largest on-chain institutional credit protocols by assets under management.

The Use Case of Maple Finance

The primary use case for SYRUP is to participate in the governance of the Maple Finance protocol. Holders vote on proposals covering pool delegates, fee structures, and risk parameters.
